About Nurses Foundation of Racine
Our History
The Nurses Foundation of Racine (NFR) is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization established and incorporated in 1983.
Our Purpose
The purpose of the NFR is to provide scholarships for education to nursing students who reside or work in Kenosha, Racine, or Walworth counties. Since 1983, NFR has faithfully served this purpose by providing scholarships to students enrolled in Associate, Baccalaureate, and Advanced Degree nursing programs.
Our Mission
NFR believes that financial support of nursing education leads to an increased supply of qualified nurses for better community health, better patient care, and more cost-effective care.
Our Goals
The goals of NFR are to secure local, broad-based financial support for nurse scholars from individuals, corporations, and foundations and to increase financial assistance to local scholars who are pursuing or enhancing the profession of nursing.
Our Activities
With fundraising by community volunteers, less than five percent of all assets are spent on administrative expenses. Fund administration is accomplished by an unpaid Board of Directors. Applications are reviewed, and a criteria-based selection of recipients is made by a committee of nurses.
Why Nurses Foundation of Racine?
Registered Nurses are in great demand and in short supply. Nursing is a theory-based scientific profession that requires nursing research and advanced education. The expense of nursing education discourages or prohibits some qualified and interested individuals from becoming nurses. The cost of nursing programs is increasing yearly, making scholarships in high demand. Part-time jobs are often unavailable, don't provide income sufficient to meet educational costs, or conflict with the rigorous schedules of nursing scholars.
